Dobro Country Rock Band

The Dobro Country Rock Band was born in the heart of the Po Valley in 1979 as a Country Rock music band. The original lineup, which remains the same for almost ten years (Vittorio Alfieri – bass/Roberto Alfieri – keyboards/Lorenzo Mariani-vocals, acoustic guitar/Maurizio Panizza – vocals, electric and acoustic guitars/John Smith – vocals, electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar and voice/Anchise Bolchi – violin/Morari-drums), presents a repertoire mostly consists of songs by the Eagles, Alabama, John Denver and many others famous country singers, which is frequently proposed in several European Nato bases in which the group is particularly appreciated, as well as in the most important “beer fests” including San Giovanni Lupatoto (VR), Casalromano (CR) , Casoni di Luzzara (RE). These early experiences lets growin’ up the Band that will acquire gradually experience and confidence with important dimensions audiences. In the early 90 ‘s Claudio Palù become a Band member replacing the main singer Lorenzo Mariani, and Eugenio Poppi won an uncomfortable place to substitute Anchises Bolchi at the Steel guitar, Dobro and acoustic guitar. The entry of these new members brings new spirit in the band, that will progressively approaches more contemporary music repertoire artists like Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Tim McGraw and many others. In 1993 the band presents the first Cd (One) which includes two original songs composed by Eugenio Poppi and Claudio Palù (I can feel your love “/” Comin’ home), songs frequently transmitted by the most famous radio of North Italy. The self-produced Cd, will sell more than 10000 copies, including cd stores, festivals and shows. Since those years the band cross Italian borderline to participate to many important European festivals. Important to mention Bad Ischl (A), great international festival, in which the band represent the Italian flag for 5 years consecutively, alongside artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Dale Watson, Derailers, Chris Le Doux, Doug Kershaw, Mel Mc Daniel.
In autumn 2001 the band enters again in studio to record “Have a Nice Day”, the 2th album distinguish by a most rock sound that includes the best of the Repertoire of the second half of the 90. After a few months and many vicissitudes, the band lost two of the founding members and is no longer possible to avoid the dissolution of the band that after more than two decades of existence leaves a void in the Italian country music scene. The unexpected event takes place in 2003, when some of the members themselves still animated by the enthusiasm that had them joined for many years, decided to reform the 90′ band involving new members. In 2005 the band released the third album “Drinks & Strings” which sees reach full artistic maturity of the band. After 34 years in the winter of 2013 Giovanni Daolio (lead guitar, banjo, mandolin), is definitively winding up his musical career at the age of 56 years, giving way to Alessandro Ricci, very high professional musician and fan of country and rockabilly music that contributes to raising the level of the band and brings again on the stage an essential instrument as the banjo. The debut of Alessandro, coincides with the entry in the band of three other musicians by undisputed artistic and technical quality, Marco Tedeschi on piano/Hammond and Gregorio Ferrarese on the drum and Paolo Pizzi on the bass. According to many fans, the current one is probably the best team that the band have ever been able to present to the public in the now 37 years of existence.

I Dobro Country Rock Band nascono nel cuore della Pianura Padana nel 1979 proponendosi come gruppo Country Rock. La formazione originale, che rimane la stessa per quasi dieci anni (Vittorio Alfieri – basso / Roberto Alfieri –tastiere / Lorenzo Mariani – voce, chitarra acustica / Maurizio Panizza – voce, chitarra elettrica e acustica / Giovanni Daolio – voce,
chitarra elettrica, acustica, banjo, mandolino / Anchise Bolchi – voce, steel guitar e violino / Franco Morari – batteria), presenta un repertorio principalmente composto da brani degli Eagles, Alabama, John Denver e Poco, che viene frequentemente proposto in numerose basi Nato europee nelle quali il gruppo viene particolarmente apprezzato, oltre che nelle più importanti “feste della birra” tra cui S.Giovanni Lupatoto, Casalromano, Casoni di Luzzara. Queste prime importanti esperienze fanno maturare il gruppo che acquisirà progressivamente esperienza e confidenza con platee di importanti dimensioni. Nei primi anni ’90 la formazione subisce una modifica radicale con l’ingresso nel gruppo di Claudio Palù che sostituirà alla voce principale Lorenzo Mariani, e di Eugenio Poppi che si aggiudica lo scomodo posto di sostituto di Anchise Bolchi alla Steel guitar, Dobro e chitarra acustica. L’ingresso dei nuovi elementi porterà una ventata di novità nel gruppo, che inserirà progressivamente nel repertorio musica di artisti più contemporanei come Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Tim McGraw ed altri. Nel 1993 viene presentato il primo Cd (One) di cui fanno parte due brani originali composti da Eugenio Poppi e Claudio Palù (I can feel your love / Comin’ home) che vengono frequentemente trasmessi dalle più note radio del nord Italia. Il Cd autoprodotto, venderà oltre 10.000 copie, tra negozi, festival e concerti). Gli anni seguenti vedono il gruppo valicare le frontiere italiane per partecipare ad importanti Country festival europei. Da citare sicuramente quello di Bad Ischl, in cui per 5 anni consecutivi la Band viene invitata a rappresentare i colori italiani a fianco di artisti come la Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Dale Watson, Derailers, Chris Le Doux, Doug Kershaw, Mel Mc Daniel. Nell’autunno 2001 la band entra in sala d’incisione per registrare “Have a Nice Day”, album con sonorità decisamente meno “acustiche” del primo e che racchiude il meglio del repertorio della seconda metà degli anni 90. Dopo alcuni mesi e varie vicissitudini, la band perde due dei membri storici e non risulta più possibile evitare lo scioglimento della band che dopo oltre un ventennio di esistenza lascia un vuoto nello
scenario musicale della musica country europea. La svolta inaspettata avviene nell’autunno 2003, quando alcuni degli elementi si ritrovano ancora animati dall’entusiasmo che li aveva accomunati per tanti anni e decidono di riformare la band degli anni ’90 con il coinvolgimento di nuovi elementi. Nel 2005 esce il terzo album “Drinks & Strings” che vede raggiungere la piena maturità artistica della band. Dopo 34 anni, nell’inverno 2013 Giovanni Daolio (lead guitar, banjo, mandolino), cessa definitivamente la sua attività musicale all’età di 56 anni, lasciando il posto ad Alex Ricci, professionista di elevatissimo livello ed appassionato del genere country e rockabilly che contribuisce ad elevare il livello della band riportando nella formazione uno strumento fondamentale come il banjo. L’ingresso di Alex, coincide con l’arrivo nella band di altri due musicisti di indiscusse qualità artistiche e tecniche, Marco Tedeschi al pianoforte/Hammond e Gregorio Ferrarese alla batteria. A detta di molti, quella attuale risulta probabilmente la miglior formazione che la band abbia mai potuto presentare al pubblico negli ormai 36 anni di esistenza.
